Farewell Luncheon Hosted in Honour of Mohamed Yahya at Sukkur Mayor House

Mayor Sukkur and Spokesperson for the Sindh Government, Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, on Friday hosted a graceful farewell luncheon at his residence in honour of the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, Muhammad Yahya.
The luncheon was organized to acknowledge Yahya’s invaluable services while leading the UN System in Pakistan, to pay tribute to his contributions, and to congratulate him on his appointment to a key global leadership position in the United Nations.
During his tenure as UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, Yahya led the UN System and played a significant role in:
- Humanitarian welfare
- Sustainable development
- Climate change
- Disaster response
- Humanitarian assistance
- Support for vulnerable communities
Muhammad Yahya has been appointed as Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations by the UN Secretary-General. The appointment marks his transition from a pivotal leadership role in Pakistan to a senior global responsibility, and reflects confidence in his professional capabilities and services.

On the occasion, speakers paid rich tributes to Yahya’s services as Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan and appreciated the UN’s role in sustainable development, humanitarian welfare, climate resilience, disaster response, and support for vulnerable communities.
Congratulating Muhammad Yahya on assuming the prestigious responsibility of Assistant Secretary-General, Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh said the appointment is not only recognition of his professional competence and leadership but also of his invaluable services in Pakistan.
He said that Yahya discharged his responsibilities in Pakistan with exceptional dedication, vision, and humanitarian spirit, and under his leadership, cooperation between the United Nations and Pakistan was further strengthened.
Barrister Sheikh said that Yahya’s departure from Pakistan is certainly the loss of a valued personality, however, his new global assignment reflects recognition of his abilities and global trust in him. He prayed that Yahya would continue to serve humanity with the same spirit, commitment, and success in his new role.
