Home Dept Stresses Zero-tolerance Against Online Hate
Punjab Home Department has intensified its efforts to preserve law and order, promote interfaith harmony, and strengthen inter-sectarian tolerance, on the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab. This includes ongoing consultations with religious scholars across Rawalpindi and the province.
In a recent meeting, Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, Khawaja Salman Rafique, met with a delegation of Tehreek-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat scholars led by Mufti Intekhab Ahmed Nouri, Chairman of the Muttahida Ulema Board in Punjab. The participants discussed the law and order situation, strategies for promoting religious tolerance, and measures to prevent sectarian tensions.
A spokesperson from the Punjab Home Department emphasized the crucial role religious scholars play in spreading messages of peace and restraint. They reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to maintaining social cohesion in collaboration with scholars from all schools of thought.
Scholars have been encouraged to use their pulpits and public platforms to discourage hate speech and inflammatory rhetoric. A strict zero-tolerance policy is being enforced against individuals propagating sectarian hatred or offensive content on social media. The department actively monitors the digital space, reporting objectionable content to relevant authorities for legal action.
It was revealed that over 13,000 objectionable social media accounts have been reported to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) by the Punjab Home Department for further action. Authorities stressed that no individual or group will be permitted to misuse digital platforms to incite sectarian conflict.
