Indonesia Identifies Renewable Energy and EV Sectors for EU Investment
The Indonesian government has identified several key business sectors attracting European Union (EU) investors ahead of the full implementation of the Indonesia–EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA).
Targeted Areas:
- New and Renewable Energy (NRE): Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto highlighted renewable energy as a targeted area.
- Digital Industry: Digital cybersecurity is another sector of focus between Indonesia and the EU.
- Agriculture: Both countries are prioritizing agriculture as part of their economic partnership.
- Electric Vehicles (EV) Downstreaming: The government aims to optimize EV downstreaming, recognizing its potential for growth.
Airlangga noted that trade between Indonesia and the 27-nation bloc reached US$31.9 billion in 2025, with US$13.6 billion in cumulative EU foreign direct investment into Indonesia over five years. Officials anticipate the finalized trade framework will significantly build on these figures.
Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, Chairperson of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (APINDO), also mentioned fisheries, agriculture, and healthcare as sectors with strong potential to attract European capital. She emphasized that the implementation of IEU-CEPA is expected to drive fresh investment and infrastructure development in Indonesia.
