KUs Prof Dr Bilquees Gul Honored With High-level Talent Award In China

KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Aug, 2026) Professor Dr Bilquees Gul of the University of Karachi has been honored with the prestigious high-level talent expert award by the Ministry of Science and Technology Bureau of Dongying District, Shandong Province, China, under the Shandong Provincial Talent Project. She is reportedly the first Pakistani woman academic to receive this recognition.

The award was conferred in recognition of Professor Dr Gul’s academic and scientific contributions and her role in promoting international research collaboration between Pakistan and China.

As part of this prestigious recognition, Professor Dr Gul will serve as a high-talent international leader in a funded international collaborative research project involving a consortium of leading Chinese research and academic institutions, including the Xinjiang Institute of Geography and Ecology, Urumqi; Wuhan University and Wuhan Botanical Garden, Wuhan; and a prominent forestry enterprise based in Shandong Province.

As the next phase of the collaboration, Professor Dr Gul has been formally invited to China in August 2026 to commence work on the project. During her visit, she will engage with Chinese researchers and project partners to initiate research activities, finalize collaborative arrangements, and advance the implementation of the international project.

Professor Dr Gul has also received the President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) Distinguished Scientist Award in 2025, a highly prestigious international recognition award given by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and its PIFI.

The program attracts and recognizes leading international scientists and researchers for collaboration with Chinese research institutions.

Through these recognitions and research collaborations, Professor Dr Bilquees Gul has established a strong academic and scientific partnership between Pakistan and China, particularly in environmental research, climate resilience, sustainable development, and natural resource management.

Representing Pakistan and the University of Karachi, Professor Dr Gul expressed her gratitude to Almighty Allah SWT for providing her with these opportunities and said she was honoured to contribute to international scientific cooperation. She emphasized that such collaborations provide valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange, joint research, capacity building, and the development of innovative solutions to global environmental challenges.
