Mine Owners Seek Immediate End To Explosives Restrictions In Abbottabad

Mine owners have demanded the immediate lifting of restrictions on explosives used in licensed mining operations, highlighting significant economic losses and job displacement caused by the prolonged ban. This was shared during a representative meeting at the Mineral Department Abbottabad.

The Frontier Mine Owners Association, through their association president, Uzair Khan Tanoli, claimed a loss of over Rs10 billion in provincial revenue due to the suspension of explosives supplies. Asad Javed Khan further emphasized the impact on the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of workers.

The association argued that explosives are acquired legally and used only for authorized mining activities, offering to comply with security agencies’ SOPs and enhanced monitoring. They appealed for the restoration of mining operations under a safe and workable mechanism.

Participants also expressed concerns over the restrictions’ effect on transporters, factory owners, and mine workers, causing substantial losses to government revenue. A symbolic protest was staged outside the Mineral Department, urging immediate action.

They warned of a potential peaceful march towards Peshawar if their demands are not met, emphasizing a balance between security measures, employment, and economic activity.
