PM Seeks Stronger Pakistan-Syria Ties in Trade, Defence, and Education

ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Aug, 2026) Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday emphasised the need to strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Syria across various sectors, including politics, defence, trade, investment, education, and human resource development.

These remarks were made during a meeting with Foreign Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani. The Prime Minister’s Office released a statement outlining the discussion.

Welcome Al-Shaibani and his delegation, Sharif expressed his best wishes for Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and recalled their recent interactions. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, particularly regarding the Golan Heights.

Al-Shaibani conveyed greetings from President al-Sharaa and briefed Sharif on Syria’s political transition and reconstruction efforts. He thanked Pakistan for its continuous support over the years and expressed interest in revitalising bilateral engagement through institutional mechanisms.

Sharif also extended an invitation to President al-Sharaa to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient date.
