Sialkot Divided Into Beats To Strengthen ‘Suthra Punjab’

Provincial Minister for Local Government of Punjab, Mian Zeeshan Rafique, has stated that the introduction of a beat system is aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the "Suthra Punjab" program. Sialkot district has been divided into distinct beats, with strict monitoring through geo-tagging and AI ensuring diligent implementation.

Presiding over a meeting in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner Sialkot’s office, Mian Zeeshan Rafique emphasized the importance of zero tolerance for negligence in the flagship project initiated by Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He set a daily target for each beat and instructed that any accumulations of garbage require immediate action with additional labor deployed if necessary.

Awais Mushtaq, Deputy Commissioner Sialkot, along with Mian Sarmad Hussain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Municipal Services, and Faisal Shahzad, MD WASA, attended the meeting. A comprehensive update was presented on model villages, sewerage systems, and ongoing development projects.

The provincial minister urged for tight coordination between urban and rural union councils, meticulous monitoring of sanitation workers’ performance, and robust follow-up on citizen complaints. He pledged to conduct surprise visits and personally assess the sanitation system.

Furthermore, Mian Zeeshan Rafique directed:

  • The establishment of disposal stations across the district with capacity augmentation at existing facilities.
  • Prompt drainage of rainwater and swift resolution of water stagnation issues, a recurring problem in the past.
