Josh Tarling: Briton finishes third in Vuelta a Espana opener eight days after brother Finlay’s death
BBC Sport senior journalist Matt Warwick reports on the stunning performance of Josh Tarling in the Vuelta a Espana, just weeks after the tragic loss of his brother, Finlay.
Britain’s Josh Tarling finished in a commendable third place in the opening stage of the Vuelta a Espana, showcasing an impressive display on a challenging course in Monaco. This achievement comes just eight days after his brother Finlay sadly lost his life in a cycling accident during the Volta a Portugal.
The 22-year-old Netcompany Ineos rider’s performance is all the more remarkable given the circumstances. Tadej Pogacar, the favourite for overall victory, won the stage by a slim margin of just nine hundredths of a second, with another Briton, Ethan Hayter, placing second. Tarling was only four seconds behind Pogacar, demonstrating his resilience and determination.
